Hi, I am Wai Luen, a licensed and registered counselor in Malaysia. I completed my Masters in Professional Counselling in Monash University Malaysia. Currently, I am a sessional tutor in Monash University Malaysia and I do freelance counseling.

Wai Luen (WL) is a licensed counselor who had experience working with teenagers, young adults, working adult and also the elderly. He sees counselling as a process to help clients explore and learn about themselves.

WL has experience of working with NGOs of Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) and PTF Community Health Care Clinic (PTF CHCC). In MMHA, he helped clients diagnosed with mental health disorders in ways such as teaching them coping styles, listening to them and act as a companion in their journey of getting better. In PTF CHCC, WL had experience working with client of various sexuality who were affected by psychosocial issues such as stress in life, relationships and family matters. He also helped in spreading awareness on sexual health by participating in roadshows organized by PTF CHCC, in collaboration with other organizations.

In a counselling session with WL, he listens without judging the clients and focus on being supportive of the client, provide client with a safe space to talk. By being neutral, he helps client to explore their issue and to look at them from different perspectives. On case-to-case basis, he might also educate clients on knowledge, techniques or skills such as psychological knowledge, relaxation techniques and social skills.

WL holds a Master of Professional Counselling degree and Bachelor of Psychological Science and Business. He is registered and licensed under Board of Counselors of Malaysia (LKM), with registration and licensure number of (KB08677, PA08280). He is proficient in English and Mandarin, and able to understand dialects of Cantonese and Hokkien.

Recently, he is undertaking a certification course in Family Therapy, for continuous professional development.
