In the past few years, happiness has been a popular subject of study. Researchers have studied what makes people happy and how to make people happier. What is your definition of happiness? Is it a feeling, an emotion, or a state of mind? To me, happiness is all three. Happiness can be a feeling that I experience when I see my son’s face light up with excitement as he looks at his favorite toy truck. It can also be an emotion that I feel when my daughter hugs me after she finishes her first 10K race without stopping once! Lastly, it can be a state of mind where for just those moments in time, everything feels right with the world.”
What is Happiness?
That is a question that most people ask themselves. Many of us strive to be happy, but the truth is we may not even know what happiness really is!
First off, let’s start with understanding why many researchers believe it isn’t all about money. There are plenty of countries where people make less than $1000/year and yet they are pretty happy with their lives.
Next, let’s explore what some of the biggest influencers of happiness really are!
It turns out that relationships and empathy have a large impact on our feelings of well-being. In fact, studies show that living together is more important than income when it comes to personal satisfaction! Other factors include gratitude, generosity, optimism, and social connections.
Lastly, let’s explore how you can actually go about finding happiness!
One of the best ways to start is by increasing your awareness of what makes you happy or unhappy. For example – take a look at all the things that make you angry throughout each day. Then think about whether those events would make you angry if they happened to someone else. If not, then it’s time to reframe the situation and think of it differently!
Another way to increase your happiness is by doing more of what you love! For instance, instead of checking social media every ten minutes – try going for a walk and really focusing on the journey. Or if you enjoy painting or another creative outlet, then set aside an hour each day just to do that!
It’s true that everyone is different and that is why there are no “one-size-fits-all” solutions to finding happiness. However, with a little more self-reflection and awareness, it’s likely you’ll start feeling better about yourself in the coming days!
How To Be Happy?
The age-old question that the philosophers ask from the ancient Greeks to today.
On a sunny day, when you’re in good company, eating delicious food, or listening to music you enjoy, these are all great ways to tap into happiness.
However, there are times when no matter how hard you try to be happy or force it upon yourself, you cannot seem to find any joy at the moment that surrounds you. This is because true happiness doesn’t come from outside of us but within ourselves and can only be found by discovering what truly makes YOU happy!
How to Find Happiness Within Yourself?
The first step to finding your own happiness is identifying what makes you happy. This can be more difficult than it sounds, especially if you are used to following the crowd or doing what others expect of you instead of focusing on your priorities and values.
Once you’ve made a list of things that make YOU happy (you might want to keep your list on a computer or phone to remind yourself of what makes you happy), try incorporating these things into your daily life, even if it’s just for five minutes.
This way, when feeling down and out about the state of the world or how unhappy other people are around you, there is always something that can bring back those warm fuzzy feelings!
Stop Chasing Happiness
Many people believe that achieving certain objectives or ambitions leads to happiness. Rather than viewing happiness as a reward that must be earned on a daily basis, this approach considers it an emotion that is deserved.
Remove Your Own Barriers To Happiness
The second disadvantage of relying on external objectives is that you may fall into harmful mental patterns. You may forget that being happy is something that exists inside you and can be found by looking in, rather than expecting an external action to produce it.
It’s easy to get caught up in the predictability of life and accept that you’re just waiting for something, whether it be a promotion or a new love interest. Instead of focusing on what you want to happen in the future, think about what makes you happy on a daily basis. It might be spending time with family, friends, or a lover; performing an activity like painting, cycling, or cooking; or achieving any other goal.
Allow yourself to have fun with your phone on a regular basis.
Practice Looking Inwards
The third stage is to try to find happiness within yourself, which takes time and effort. This is a good habit that may help you discover inner joy.
Start keeping track of your mood regularly. If you’re anxious, use the techniques in this book to reduce stress. Set up a self-care plan if you feel like you could do better-taking care of yourself.
Build Your Self-esteem
After you’ve started checking in with yourself, you can start working on any areas that are giving you trouble. Internal issues might be the source of low self-esteem, so spending some time looking after yourself may be worth it. nThe NHS advises focusing on your self-esteem to make you happy: “Treating yourself as if you were a valued friend in a positive but honest manner is the greatest method to boost your own esteem.”
This is a wonderful technique to assess how well you care for yourself, especially if you are self-employed. You should be your own best boss. It is important to treat yourself with kindness and love. If you want to change something about yourself, just write it down and start changing it gradually.
Doing mindfulness can help you feel more in tune with how you are feeling. You can do this by practicing being present during your day. Some people try to do this during their work, and some people use it with a team.
You can experience happiness on a more regular basis if you are present. This means that you enjoy your life and what is happening around you.
Take Time To Appreciate Yourself
The final stage in my six-step approach is to value yourself. Appreciate your job, your life, and your achievements. Happiness may be found by simply ruminating on past events, some of which are accomplishments and others which are pleasant experiences.
Consider reflecting on your journey on a regular basis if you’re a freelancer or entrepreneur. It’s all too easy to get caught up in future schemes and lose sight of how well you’ve done previously. You’ll not only re-experience the emotions that particular milestones brought, but also discover methods to improve yourself and your company by focusing on your past experiences.
