Online therapy in Cairo

Online therapy in Cairo is becoming more common as the world becomes more connected.

Online therapists help those who may feel anxious about meeting face to face in a therapist’s room, those who can’t afford offline therapy or those that simply prefer the convenience and anonymity of online counselling and psychotherapy.

The world of online counselling is vast, but many people are still unconvinced about the validity of online therapy, with some feeling that it is not real therapy.

However, there are plenty of therapists who can provide solid support and guidance through your issues via Skype or other messaging apps.

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

Mental Health in Cairo

In Cairo, as of 2011, there were around 950 000 people with a mental health condition. The prevalence of those that have been diagnosed is 4% higher than those that have yet been diagnosed, which is around 310 000 people. There are also those that live with major depressive disorder and other mood disorders and they make up about 2% to 3%.

The statistics for the prevalence of anxiety disorders could be as high as 60% for males and 30% for females. For those males living in Cairo, this number reaches 80%. The statistics show the importance of the need to identify and diagnose these conditions at an early age so that treatment can start.

The symptoms of panic disorders are often mistaken for heart problems. The symptoms are chest pains, heart palpitations, dry mouth, shortness of breath, and uncontrolled shaking. Anxiety is also present among students in Cairo at an alarming rate with the symptoms being the avoidance of certain places or people, loss of concentration in schoolwork, or other activities that were once enjoyed.

People need to be aware that they should not ignore these symptoms because they could lead to more severe symptoms later on in life if left untreated. There are several plans today when it comes to helping people struggling with their mental health conditions. Some companies help by providing daydreaming spaces where employees can go when they feel stressed out or anxious so that their minds can process what is worrying them instead of trying to suppress these feelings.

Best Therapists in Cairo

Dr. Nader Abdel-Fattah

Dr. Nader Abdel-Fattah is a well-known psychologist in Egypt that has helped many people recover from mental illness and depression over the past four decades. Dr. al-Najjar earned his Ph.D. in child clinical psychology from Cairo University in 1988, which also makes him one of Egypt’s most experienced child psychologists.

Dr. Ahmed Abdullah

Dr. Ahmed Abdullah is another well-known Egyptian psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping children overcome behavior problems and disorders so they can heal properly. He has published many books on confidence-building techniques for children, which are targeted at parents and educators to help them understand how to best guide their kids through life’s challenges while still nurturing their self-esteem. Educators, in turn, learn how to avoid creating feelings of inadequate self-worth in their students.

Dr. Ihab al-Qazaz

Dr. Ihab al-Qazaz is the director of the Department of Psychology at Ain Shams University and has been a professor there since 1985. He also served as the Dean of Faculty of Education from 2005 to 2012, which means he used to be responsible for all other mental health professionals at Ain Shams University: social workers, therapists, and counselors other than psychologists (who make up less than 10% of Egypt’s mental health workforce). He was one of many professors who participated in drafting the first unified national psychology examination for licensure purposes in 2013, so he definitely knows what he is doing when it comes to psychological evaluations.

Dr. Walid al-Shaibany

Dr. Walid al-Shaibany is the most famous and well-known psychologist in Egypt at the moment, given his successful career as a clinician, author, educator, and media personality. He earned his Ph.D. from Ain Shams University in 1999, which means he has been practicing for nearly 20 years now. And unlike many other psychologists who never bother to write self-help books for people to read, Dr. Shaibany has written three that are all bestsellers on Amazon by now: “What Everyone Should Know About Psychology”, “The Book of Destiny” (on building self-confidence), and “How To Control Your Emotions – And Master Life”
