There are many ways that you can seal with someone who is highly sensitive.
If you are an HSP:
- Allow yourself to take time for yourself and do things that make you happy. This can be something as simple as reading, going for a walk, or taking a bath.
- Talk to someone about how you’re feeling; whether that’s a friend, family member, therapist, or anyone else. It can be helpful to talk through your thoughts and feelings with someone who will understand and not judge you.
- Find ways to manage your senses. This could mean using noise-canceling headphones when needed, wearing sunglasses outside even on cloudy days, or avoiding overwhelming situations whenever possible.
- Be patient with yourself. Learning how to live as an HSP can take time and will be a process.
If you are not an HSP:
- Understand that this person may need more alone time than others because they feel everything around them so intensely. This does not mean they do not want to spend time with you. It is rather their way of processing what has happened at the moment before returning back to normal life. Be patient with them as much as possible while still allowing yourself your own personal space when needed.
